Sessions

What to expect

Your first session is a space to begin understanding your story. We will explore your current challenges, personal history, and what you hope to achieve. This collaborative process ensures therapy feels safe and relevant to your needs.

Number of sessions

The number of sessions varies depending on your specific goals and the complexity of your concerns. Some people find short-term support helpful, while others prefer longer-term therapy to explore deeper relational patterns.

Online sessions

We offer secure Telehealth sessions for those who prefer therapy from the comfort of their own home or are unable to attend one of our physical practice locations. These sessions offer the same level of care and privacy as in-person appointments.

Session length

Standard therapy sessions run for approximately 50 minutes. This allows time for a meaningful exploration of your concerns while ensuring we maintain a consistent and predictable container for our work together.

Rebates & Referrals

Medicare Rebates

If you have a Mental Health Care Plan and a valid referral from your GP, psychiatrist, or paediatrician, you are eligible for the Medicare rebate. Currently, Medicare provides a rebate of $141.85 per session for Clinical Psychologist services for up to 10 sessions per calendar year.

Private Health Insurance

Many private health insurance providers offer rebates for psychological services. Please check with your specific insurer regarding your level of cover and the amount you can claim. Please note that you cannot claim both a Medicare rebate and a private health rebate for the same session.

Is a Referral Necessary?

You do not need a referral to book a session or to see a psychologist as a private client. However, if you wish to claim a Medicare rebate, you must have a valid referral and Mental Health Care Plan from your GP or treating doctor prior to your first eligible session.

Confidentiality

Your privacy is fundamental to the therapeutic process. At Connected Self Psychology, all information shared within our sessions is kept strictly confidential. This creates a secure space where you can speak openly and feel safe in your self-exploration.

There are, however, specific and limited circumstances where legal or professional obligations require us to share information. These typically occur if there is a serious risk of harm to yourself or others, or if files are subpoenaed by a court of law. We will always discuss these boundaries clearly during our initial consultation to ensure you feel informed and comfortable with the process.
